In the four-six weeks after birth, your personal situation will guide the care provided.
~1 hr appointments in your home or a setting of choice.
The visits can be used flexibly over a six-week period; you can spread the visits out, or use them as and when required. Typically visits occur on days 1, 3, 7, 10, 14, 18, 21 and 28.
Care provided but not limited to:
Postnatal Check-ups: Regular visits to assess the health and recovery of the mother and baby.
Physical Examinations: Monitoring the physical condition of both mother and baby, including checking the uterus, lochia, and healing of any perineal tears or caesarean section incisions.
Newborn Assessments: Evaluating the baby's health, including weight, feeding, jaundice, and overall development.
Breastfeeding Support: Assisting with breastfeeding techniques, addressing latch issues, and providing solutions for common breastfeeding challenges.
Management of Common Postnatal Issues: Providing care and advice for issues such as mastitis, nipple pain, and engorgement.
Newborn Care Education: Teaching parents about newborn care, including bathing, diapering, swaddling, and soothing techniques.
Postnatal Self-Care: Educating mothers on self-care practices, nutrition, and rest to support recovery and well-being
Pelvic Floor Health: Teaching exercises and techniques to strengthen the pelvic floor and support postpartum recovery.
Emotional Support: Providing counselling for postnatal emotional changes, including baby blues, postpartum depression and puerperal psychosis.
Family Adjustment: Assisting the family in adjusting to the new baby, including sibling integration and partner support
Birth Debriefing: Offering sessions to discuss and process the birth experience
Sleep Guidance: Safe sleeping positions and awareness of the prevention of SIDS.
Infant Feeding Plans: Helping to establish feeding schedules and routines, including combination feeding (breast and bottle).
If I haven’t already worked with you in the antenatal period it is useful to do some postnatal prep with you before your due date. Please schedule a consultation call so we can assess the best plan moving forward.
We can then be in close contact, and you can keep me updated of your discharge or successful home birth, and we can arrange my first visit.
